Planning a sailing trip to Mallorca and trying to work out what you will actually spend? You are not alone. Bareboat charter costs can feel opaque at first glance, with base hire fees, APA deposits, optional extras and end-of-week charges all sitting in different columns of a booking quote.

This guide cuts through all of that. Below you will find a clear breakdown of what a bareboat charter in Mallorca typically costs, what is normally covered in the headline price, and which extras are worth factoring into your budget before you commit. Mallorca offers more than 550 kilometres of coastline, over 300 sunny days a year, and a fleet of well-equipped yachts and catamarans ranging from 35 to 55 feet. Whether you are planning a week along the Serra de Tramuntana or threading between the eastern coves near Cala d’Or, getting the budget right from the start means you can focus on the sailing rather than the spreadsheet.

Typical Charter Fee Ranges for Mallorca

Charter fees in Mallorca vary according to yacht size, build year, catamaran versus monohull, and the time of season. As a general guide, a mid-range monohull in the 38 to 42 foot bracket tends to sit in a different pricing band than a 50 foot catamaran in peak July or August. Prices are usually quoted per week and cover the vessel itself rather than fuel, provisioning or marina fees.

Season plays a significant role. Early and late season windows, typically May, June and September, tend to offer better value than the peak summer weeks. If your crew has flexibility on dates, sailing in shoulder season also means calmer anchorages and more room in popular ports such as Port de Sóller.

A note on pricing accuracy: Sailing Around quotes are calculated based on your specific dates, yacht preference and group size. Because rates shift year on year and vary by vessel, we have not listed fixed price points here. The most reliable next step is to use the enquiry form on the Mallorca charter page to get a quote built around your trip rather than a generic figure that may not reflect current availability.

What Is Usually Included in the Base Charter Fee

Most bareboat charter operators, including Sailing Around, bundle a core set of items into the weekly hire price. Knowing what is standard helps you read a quote confidently rather than being surprised by additions later.

The yacht itself. Every vessel in the Sailing Around fleet comes fitted with GPS navigation, VHF radio, autopilot and a bow thruster as standard. Safety equipment is provided and meets charter requirements.

A chart briefing before departure. Before you leave the marina, you receive a full briefing covering recommended anchorages, navigation considerations around the island and the local maritime rules that apply to charter vessels in Spanish waters.

Basic safety kit. Life jackets, flares, fire extinguishers and other required safety items are stocked on board as part of the base hire.

Initial fuel in many cases. Some operators include a full tank at departure on the understanding you return the vessel with an equivalent level. Others charge fuel separately. This is worth confirming at the time of booking so you can plan marina stop-offs accordingly.

End-of-week cleaning is sometimes bundled into the fee or offered as a paid add-on. Again, clarify this at the quote stage.

What the base fee does not usually cover includes your own food and drink, marina berth fees overnight, additional fuel used during the week, and any optional services such as a skipper or a provisioning package.

    Optional Extras Worth Budgeting For

Once you have the base charter fee, there are several optional additions that experienced bareboat sailors commonly factor into their total budget.

Skipper hire. If your crew does not hold a recognised sailing licence or simply wants a local expert on board for part or all of the trip, Sailing Around offers a professional skipper add-on. A skipper brings detailed knowledge of Mallorca’s anchorages and can help your crew develop their confidence on the water. This is charged separately to the base hire.

Provisioning. Stocking the boat before you set off is one of the more enjoyable parts of preparing for a week at sea, but it takes time and planning. Palma is widely regarded as the most straightforward base for provisioning in Mallorca, with good supermarkets close to the marina. If you prefer to arrive and step straight aboard a stocked boat, provisioning packages are available. Discuss this with the team when you enquire.

Marina fees. Anchoring in open coves is free, but if you plan to berth overnight in ports such as Port de Sóller, Cala d’Or or Palma itself, expect to pay marina fees. These vary by port and season and are usually settled directly with the marina rather than through your charter company.

APA (Advance Provisioning Allowance). Some charter packages operate on an APA model where you deposit an agreed amount at the start of the week to cover running costs such as fuel, marina fees and harbour dues. Any unspent portion is returned at the end. If your charter is quoted this way, factor the APA into your total trip budget from the outset.

Security deposit. A refundable damage deposit is standard practice across the industry. The amount varies by vessel size and is held by the charter company for the duration of the trip. It is returned in full provided the yacht is returned in good order.

    Licence Requirements: A Quick Note

Bareboat charter in Mallorca requires at least one crew member to hold a recognised sailing licence or to demonstrate adequate sailing experience. This is a legal requirement for chartering in Spanish waters rather than a policy specific to Sailing Around. If you are unsure whether your qualifications meet the standard, it is worth raising this at the enquiry stage. Adding a professional skipper is also an option for crews who want experienced support regardless of licence status.

Ready to Get a Quote for Your Mallorca Charter?

The Serra de Tramuntana to the northwest, the turquoise bays around Es Trenc to the south, and the quieter coves of the eastern coast near Cala d’Or all sit within comfortable sailing range across a week-long charter. Getting a proper quote takes minutes and gives you exact figures based on your dates and group rather than estimates.

Visit the Sailing Around Mallorca charter page to send an enquiry or ask any questions about what is included in your specific booking. The team is happy to walk through the cost breakdown before you commit to anything.
